COMPETITION |
2009 was the National Trust’s Golden Jubilee
year and what better way to celebrate than with a competition to
value heritage!
The annual National Trust’s Photo & Story
competition was bigger and better than ever with an amazing 300
entries from across the state. This year, Woodside sponsored a
special category for students from the Pilbara who were encouraged
to recognise the special significance of their region.

The awards ceremony for students from metropolitan and southern
regional schools was held at the Old Observatory in West Perth on
Thursday 29 October. Shortlisted students, their families and
teachers were invited to attend. The Hon John Cowdell, President of
the National Trust of Australia (WA), presented the awards.

Students, families and teachers from the Pilbara had a separate ceremony at
Welcome Lotteries House in Karratha on Wednesday 4 November.
Newly appointed Shire President Nicole Lockwood presented the
prizes which included awards to three local schools – Dampier
Primary School, Tambrey Primary School and Peg’s Creek Primary
School, as well as to individual prize winners.
The overall winner from the metropolitan region was Isabelle Flynn
from Newman College.
The overall State Winner was Navyaa Shukla from Tambrey Primary
school.
The National Trust congratulates all the winners.
The National Trust would particularly like to thank the Judges -
Tricia Hille (Towns of Cottesloe, Mosman Park and Peppermint Grove
Library), Bill Grayson (City of South Perth Library) and Mike
Lefroy representing the National Trust
