COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR STUDENTS IN YEARS 10 TO 12

The Western Australian Community Service government initiative (http://bswb.det.wa.edu.au/bswb) began in 2007 and was established to help secondary school students understand the value of giving service to the community.

The National Trust of Australia (WA) works with schools to develop a Community Service program that:
• Helps students understand the value of heritage
• Benefits others
• Is purposeful and meaningful
• Provides opportunities for learning and reflection
• Produces material for an audience of similar age and ability

The National Trust recognizes the contribution made through the Community Service program by presenting Certificates and/or hosting students at a recognition function at one of our heritage places or at a school assembly.

Volunteers play a valued and important part in the design and delivery of National Trust programs. The National Trust would welcome the opportunity to design, in cooperation with your school, a Community Service opportunity which would be worthwhile and challenging for your students and also valued by the community.
